GULLIBLE’S TROUBLES by Suzi Tooke
“We didn’t want to mindlessly meander through middle age, drift into dotage and end up sitting on the porch in our rocking chairs saying, “I wish we’d gone…done..” No, we were off to make memories!” (Page 12)
Have you ever pondered what it would be like to purchase a camper van and travel throughout France, Italy, or Spain? Suzi and Bill, a nearly retired couple, decide to embark on a journey visiting family, friends, and cultural sights throughout Europe in a delightful read called Gullible’s Troubles.
By the end of the first chapter, I was laughing out loud and intrigued by this couples quirky British humor/slang and openness to the wonders of travel as they wander from campsite to campsite. Author Suzi Tooke, has the ability to write with a sense of honest and authentic encounters making you wish you were there with them.
“Ups and Downs….Strange Days indeed – good bits, bad bits and a mystery.” Page 163
This couple was prepared to tackle on anything that traveling many miles on the road can bring. The ups and downs of this lifestyle was a delight to read. Their trials and tribulations included:
finding and purchasing their camper van named “Morrison”, navigating foreign supermarkets, finding the perfect camp spot, and meeting interesting camp mates.
I enjoyed the short chapters, as I could put the book down and then pick it up a few days later, and feel as if I didn’t forget what had happened. As you join the couple navigating vineyards, villages, beaches, ferry rides, castles, and cathedrals, you also learn a bit of history of these fascinating places. The author does a great job of providing just enough background history on the subject or the place without overbearing you with more than information that you could handle.
If you find yourself in need of an entertaining, light read in order to escape and daydream of what it would actually be like traveling and living in camper van throughout Europe, this book is for you! Perhaps you have dined on pizza in Sicily before or sipped a coffee at one of the many street cafes in France or had a frosty beer at a cozy pub in England, you will be able to relate and relive your joy traveling throughout Europe with this book.
